Dr. Ildefonso Pérez Vigueras was born in Pinar del Río, Cuba, in February 12th,
1892. He dedicated his life to veterinary teaching and research in Cuba and
Colombia. He classified more than 50 new species, which correspond to:
- 8 cestodes
- 18 nematodes
- 29 trematodes
- 1 ixodides
- 2 culicid
He also studied the behavior of many diseased caused by viruses and bacteria. As
entomologist he recollected all Cuban species of Ixodides and Culicid, being this
collection the most complete and valuable of the country. Dr. Pérez Vigueras has
been considered as Cuban Veterinary Medicine Savant.
